With the new academic year now in full swing Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is delighted to open the doors of its Limerick campus and invite prospective students to explore all that MIC has to offer. The MIC Limerick Open Days will take place on Thursday 19 October from 9am-2pm and on Friday 20 October from 9am-1pm.

The Open Days are the perfect opportunity for post-primary students, parents and guardians, guidance counsellors, teachers and mature students to find out all about undergraduate study at MIC. So, whether you’re a leaving certificate student considering your CAO choices or a mature student thinking about that degree you’ve always wanted to do, the MIC Open Days are not to be missed!

Live talks will take place across the two-day event and are an excellent way for attendees to learn about MIC’s range of undergraduate degrees, including the College’s two brand new programmes – the BA in Drama and English, and the BA in English Language and Literature. The BA in English Language and Literature is the only programme of its kind currently offered in Ireland, while the BA in Drama and English is the only programme of its type offered in Munster. These innovative degrees are an exciting addition to MIC’s Faculty of Arts offering, which also includes the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Psychology. While MIC’s Bachelor of Arts has been running for 30 years, the recent addition of Business Studies now makes it one of the most unique Liberal Arts programmes in the country and allows for exciting new subject combinations, all of which will be discussed at the MIC Open Days.

Talks on Early Childhood Education, Primary Teaching and Post-Primary Teaching will also take place at multiple times throughout both days, and are a must-attend for anyone considering a career in education. Lecturers will speak about the modules students get to study on specific programmes, work placement, study abroad opportunities and career pathways.

In addition to MIC’s established programmes in Education, attendees will also hear about the College’s BA in Education, Home-Economics and Business Studies, which recently saw its first intake of students at MIC’s Thurles campus. The post-primary teaching programme has been praised by Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD, for helping to tackle a teacher supply issue in the discipline. Speaking to the first intake of students at the recent launch of the programme at MIC Thurles, Minister Foley said, “By choosing this new BA, you are now embarking on a journey of great societal consequence. Here there will be an opportunity for you to follow an exciting pathway and one that is dedicated to nurturing, empowering, supporting and celebrating the capabilities and abilities of the next generation”.

On both days, attendees will be able to enjoy campus tours and live talks. Campus tours will be led by current students and taking a tour is a great way to see MIC’s on-campus facilities. MIC students will give attendees an insight into what it’s really like to study at MIC and will be happy to answer any questions prospective students may have.

In addition to all of this, there will be an array of Information Stands where attendees can get all the important information they need on accommodation, access routes, disability support, fees and grants, scholarships, work placement, Erasmus, clubs and societies, and much more.

According to final year Bachelor of Arts student, Eoin Coughlan, “I chose MIC because the campus, small class sizes and friendly atmosphere appealed to me when I visited during the Open Day. I love the fact that most subjects have small class sizes as it’s easier to get to know your classmates and lecturers. I know most of my lecturers and they’re easy to talk to in-person. They want you to succeed and they push you to do your best.”

Second year BA in Early Childhood Care and Education student, Ashley La Rush says, “The Open Days give you the chance to explore our Limerick campus, meet MIC students and lecturers and ask any questions you have about studying at MIC.” She adds this advice for those thinking of attending the MIC Open Days, “Bring all your friends, bring all your family and bring a list of all the questions you need answers to!
