Carlow IT came out in top in a tough and competitive match in Mary I’s grounds yesterday afternoon. At stages MIC performed extremely well, taking into account the weather of the day but being a newly formed team yet to gel, they struggled at times. Tomas O Fatharta was our main attacking threat in the first half with some fantastic darting solo runs causing the Carlow defense fierce trouble. He contributed 3 points and was very unlucky to be pulled up on steps which had led to goal. Barry Horgan and Kevin O Regan won the midfield battle with both helping their team with some brilliant scores totaling 0-2 and 1-3 respectively. But for the game, MIC were always a goal behind their counterparts with the small lively corner forward causing severe damage with some very well taken scores. A Mary I went looking for that crucial goal they began to leave their defense exposed and Carlow IT punished them with a goal near the end. This brought the end of the game and left a score line of 4-10 to 2-10 in favor of the away side.
